I was so excited to shoot this twin cake smash session! Mama had an idea she had seen on Pinterest in her mind. She wanted the backdrop of her twin cake smash session to be all images of the two of them growing up the past two years! Shooting a twin cake smash can be a little more difficult and requires more planning. You need your backdrop to be a little wider than what you would use for a single kiddo. I needed this one to be taller as well. With both boys being two years old, we had two walkers on our hands. It was busy! But oh so fun!
The first task was to collect all the images from the client. I had her load images into a google drive folder that I was able to access and download from. I then imported all the images into Lightroom, edited to black and white and then exported. Once exported, I started the collages in photoshop. Lots of drag and drop but pretty easy and fast. I decided to create 3 2×8 banners that I pieced together, resulting in a 6×8 backdrop. Typically I would order these banners from Walgreens to save some money…but Walgreens photo was giving me issues on upload.
I ended up ordering from Staples, which, while it cost me more, it ended with a better result. Staples prints the banners with a true matte finish, which is what is needed to reduce shine for your backdrop. If I print through walgreens, I typically have to spray them with a matte finish to reduce the shine.
I then hung the backdrops in the studio which was such an easier task then it use to be. My hubby installed a magnetic system for me making it a breeze! (more on that later!). Mama ordered a bunch of frames from Amazon to finish the look and I added the images she selected. Note: you need to remove the glass on frames when using flash to reduce glare.
All in all, while the backdrop was definitely expensive, it’s a look I’m so excited this mama gets to treasure forever.
